Discussion post - TBR Shelves - Guilty or Not Guilty?

You know you're a reader when you have so many books you want to read but then find you don't have the time you've either got too many or you don't have time because you're reading ARC's.  This is my issue.  Even though my ARC's don't compare to some of you other bloggers (international laws prevent me from getting quite a few), they are special to me.

But, then I start to feel guilty about all the books I have and am still to read.  And I couldn't help, but think of other bloggers that may have the same trouble.  I know I'm a compulsive buyer and books are my drug of choice, but I just don't have it in me to stop.

I mean they're BOOKS!!!

So down below are pictures of my TBR shelves...and I do mean shelves.

And then there are the ones I got just today

Not to mention I have about three or four still coming.  Or the fact that this doesn't even cover what's on my kindle.  Hence my dilemma.

My question is:- how do you managed your TBR books?  Do you read as you get them (you are wise) before you get more?  Or are you like me and splurge on books when you get the chance?  Or are you so swamped with ARC's that you don't have time to buy books?  Or do you have ARC's and still splurge?  I'm curious to know.

Let me know in the comments field below.  I'd love to know how you manage it.

Book Tour Stop - My Ex from Hell by Tellulah Darling

Welcome to my stop for 'My Ex from Hell' and I am so happy to be taking a part of this tour.  I owned this book before I saw Giselle at Xpresso Book Tours had arranged a tour for it and jumped at the chance to join.  I hope you enjoy my thoughts on a book I thought was just straight out fun! :)

ExFromHellCover.jpgMy Ex From Hell by Tellulah Darling
(The Blooming Goddess Trilogy #1)
Publication date: April 1st 2013
Genres: Young Adult

Sixteen-year-old Sophie Bloom wishes she’d been taught the following:
a) Bad boy’s presence (TrOuBlE) + teen girl’s brain (DraMa) = TrAuMa (Highly unstable and very volatile.)
b) The Genus Greekulum Godissimus is notable for three traits: 1) awesome abilities, 2) grudges, and 3) hook-ups, break-ups, and in-fighting that puts cable to shame.

Prior to the Halloween dance, Sophie figures her worst problems involve adolescent theatrics, bitchy yoga girls, and being on probation  at her boarding school for mouthy behaviour. Then she meets bad boy Kai and gets the kiss that rocks her world.

This breath stealing lip lock reawakens Sophie’s true identity: Persephone, Goddess of Spring. She’s key to saving humanity in the war between the Underworld and Olympus, target numero uno of Hades and Zeus, and totally screwed.

Plus there’s also the little issue that Sophie’s last memory as Persephone was just before someone tried to murder her.

Big picture: master her powers, get her memories back, defeat Persephone’s would be assassin, and save the world. Also, sneak into the Underworld to retrieve stolen property, battle the minions of Hades and Zeus, outwit psycho nymphs, slay a dragon, rescue a classmate, keep from getting her butt expelled from the one place designed to keep her safe …

… and stop kissing Kai, Prince of the Underworld.

My Ex From Hell is a romantic comedy/Greek mythology smackdown. Romeo and Juliet had it easy.

My Thoughts
There's no secret that I love books based on mythology and  I have to say that I really enjoyed this book.  It was fun, feisty and full of snark.
What made this story for me was Sophie (Persephone).  She was just so sassy, funny and had moments of pure snark.  But it was the type that was fun.  It made me laugh at her antics, not want to stab her with a spork, like some characters make me feeling like doing.  She was relatable.  She had 'Mommy' issues and had a quiet confidence in herself where it didn't matter that she was surrounded by pretty, yet sometimes, mean girls.
I really liked the secondary characters.  Hannah was a gorgeous and bright.  Theo (or Prometheus) was someone I adored.  Just the whole way he was written really appealed to me.
And then there was Kai - the son of Hades.
Seriously, I wanted to kick him at times.  One minute he was sweetly teasing, and the next, a massive flirt.  He was still adorable though and he was definitely a boy with a hidden agenda, which made me keen to see what he gets up to in the next book.
The plot was eked out slowly, I think.  It's hard to say what the plot was about because I think I've only read part of it in this first book.  I can see part, but not all of what is happening.  I know that there's some kind of feud going on.  I know or I think I know who the main players are going to be, but how I'm going to get there is a mystery.  And the ending was not so much a cliffhanger, but a teasing glance of what may occur next.
I enjoy boarding school settings and the fact that a Hades and Persephone re-telling was set there just made it all the more exciting for me.  I don't know what it is I like about characters who live away from home as opposed to them living with their family, but the parents are never seen, but I just do.
I think although it had been based in a very modern setting, it kept to the basic legends about the characters.  Prometheus, was exactly how the myths explained him, only a little poetic licence had been used because he was different.  I know that sounds weird, but I don't want to reveal to much about him.  I must admit he was one of my favorite characters.
I also enjoyed how it took several aspects of Greek mythology including Cassandra's and twisted it into a plot I really enjoyed.
I don't actually think there was any.  There was glimpses into a possible romance.  The story almost started off with two of our characters kissing after all.  But that's all there was.  I think this is going to be very much a love/hate thing between Sophie and Kai and I kind of enjoyed it being that way.  So if you're looking for swoony moments after that first initial kiss at the start of the book, well, I think you'll be kind of disappointed.  But it does make up for the lack of that department with other things.
Writing Style
There's no question at all that there's a lot  going on in this book and there's definitely not a chance to get bored.  Well, I don't think so anyway.  The novel was written in first voice, with Sophie, being the main character throughout the whole book.  The writing was simple and pleasant.  I didn't have any problem with it anyway.  And I read this book in about five hours.  It's a quick, fun and easy read.
I think it's easy to say that I really enjoyed this book.  So much so that I'll definitely be going on to read the sequel.  I have a kindle version of this book, but I want a paper copy for my shelf - that's how much I enjoyed this story.  I would recommend this to anyone who like Greek mythology and doesn't mind a bit of poetic licence to make the book interesting.

Now for my rating:-

Book Tour Stop - Spotlight and Giveaway - DiSemblance by Shanae Branham

disemblance tour

Hi everyone.  Welcome to my stop for DiSemblance.  I am spotlighting this book as a book review is still forthcoming.  This will be posted in two days.'s an epic fail on my part.  But I still wanted to highlight this book regardless of the unforeseen circumstances that prevented me from finishing the book on time.  So enjoy my spotlight post anyway...and stay tuned for my thoughts on DiSemblance.

DiSemblance    DiSemblance Jason Tanner’s life has always been different from the ordinary citizen’s. It started when he was an infant and his parents were only teenagers. A computer science prodigy, Lloyd attended MIT but left a pariah in the eyes of the school’s dean—but a computer physics genius in the eyes of his primary investor. Then his theories and ideas created a holographic machine and their world shrunk as contact with the outside world became less and less frequent. A computer prodigy now himself, Jason is about to learn that the world never waits for you if you have the ability to change it: it will come for you. Detective Bruce Durante has been handed the case of the Comfort Killer, a serial killer so named because he appears to abduct terminally ill patients before returning their corpses to their families in refrigerated coffins. When he picks up the trail, it leads straight to the home of Lloyd Tanner. Jason has been living life through the world of Lloyd’s invention and wishing he could carry on a relationship with Boston, the beautiful girl next door. When his father is murdered and framed as the Comfort Killer, he is brought back to reality in a hurry. He is forced to destroy all of the planted evidence—and finds he is being targeted as the killer’s new fall guy. But the secrets of his father’s invention run deep and Jason, his brother Isaac,Boston, the Comfort Killer, and Detective Durante hurtle towards one another on a deadly collision course that leaves everyone’s life hanging in the balance.

Chapter 5
“…Does having a copy of your dead mother around bother you?”
No one had ever asked him that before. It felt good to talk about it. “It’s confusing.” Jason looked into Boston’s eyes. The warmth and concern he saw there was mesmerizing. “I don’t think Isaac believes mom’s dead. I don’t use that program because it doesn’t feel right.”
“It would bother me, too,” she paused. “What do you do all day?”
“Excuse me?” Jason was not offended by the question. In fact, it felt good to have someone take an interest in him.
“You don’t go to public school.”
“I already got my GED.”
“Is that it?”
“What do you mean?”
“Is that all you want from your life?”
Jason had never thought about it like that. “Why? Everything I could ever want is inside the hologram machine.”
“I’m not.”
Her words were like an arrow to his heart. She stepped closer, and he blushed as a black convertible loaded with teenage girls drove up and parked on the side of the street.
“Hey, Boston,” the driver called out.
“I’m coming,” Boston waved at her friends. Then she turned back to Jason. “By the way, I broke up with Ricky today.”
Jason felt like he had stepped in front of a moving truck. By the time he recovered his wits enough to speak, she had already jumped into the convertible, and they had peeled out, disappearing down the road.
